The patterns and trends shaping the social media landscape over the past decade indicate that about 69% of the public use at least one social media platform to connect with each other, share information and photos, for entertainment purposes, to engage with news content and a variety of other activities.

While young adults are the most common social media users, usage by the older generation has also increased in recent years. Of the major social media platforms, Facebook is by far the most widely-used followed by sites such as Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIn.

So why not take advantage of a platform that not only allows you to share and create content through online communities but one that also covers almost all facets of internet marketing vital for businesses of all sizes. So, how effective is social media marketing do you ask? Social media has become a crucial part of the overall strategy of any marketing sector.

A Broad Reach Platform

Keep in mind that at least 93% of customers expect most businesses to have a social media presence and companies can’t afford not to take advantage of the sheer number of social media users already in place.

Whether you have a Facebook page to share content, a LinkedIn group to network with prospects, or maybe a Pinterest page to showcase products, you can reach millions of people anywhere in the world all by posting the right content and having products that are relevant to your target audience or demographic.

Increase Brand Awareness

If your company’s biggest problem is obscurity, then you are almost guaranteed to lose business. You can’t expect anyone to buy your products or invest in your company’s venture if they don’t know who you really are.

The effectiveness of social media what makes you relevant and draws attention to your brand/product. It goes without saying, that making use of these platforms is the best way to generate attention, educate your followers about your brand, create a “wow” experience, and generate revenue while at it.

Not only does increasing brand awareness lower your customer’s acquisition costs, but it also ramps up customer loyalty, and it can be a useful executive metric that provides tangible evidence of your company’s potential for growth. This brings me to the next point.

Opportunity To Convert Leads Into Sales

If you are not happy with a conversion rate that is less than 100% with your current marketing strategy, social media is a giant open book that may help your business get out of the quagmire it’s in.

Today, a lot of companies are using these platforms to drive sales and get lead, however, your social media may not be up to snuff if your account isn’t fully optimized or your landing page doesn’t live up to its promises.

You can turn a real social return on investment (ROI) by creating a clear path to a conversation, for example, a custom Facebook tab that invites subscribers to sign up and directs them to your signup page. You can also include a promotion code that encourages potential leads to click on and find out more about your business.

Generate Revenue
Revenue

You generate revenue for your company from building a fan base and recruiting followers on various social media channels.

Social media marketing is effective because using anything that you think will entice users to act such offering a discount or a freebie to your followers will spur potential clients to purchase your products, who will, in turn, direct referrals your way.

Steers Potential Customers To Your Website

Using various strategies to guide potential customers to your website is an important component of connecting social media to revenue generation. Many people rely predominantly on social media searches or referrals to guide their purchases and when you engage your customers, respond to their inquiries, and encourage them to tweet their wish lists, your social media platform will, in turn, generate excitement, interest, and ultimately guide your followers to your e-commerce site.

Increase Brand Loyalty
Loyalty

Suffice to say, brand loyalty is everything to a company, without it a businesses’ reputation is at stake where it stands to lose repeat or loyal customers. Did you know that 53% of people who follow brands on social media have been found to be more loyal to those brands? Companies that have a strong social media presence enjoy a higher loyalty from their customers because they share and link all their content through these platforms.

With billions of users spread across all the major social networks, making social media your brands playground is definitely the way to go to increase brand awareness and loyalty. A company can easily achieve this by providing regular updates and special offers to their followers, providing timely customer support and addressing relevant feedback and testimonials. Social media should also not just be used as a promotional tool, it should be a two-way conversation where a forward-thinking brand also takes the time to reward and endorse their customer’s loyalty.

The partiality of a shopper towards one product over another is what can drive more visits to your website and the conversion of leads to customers. It’s no longer an option but a necessity to tap into your social media market, communicate with customers and cultivate a relationship with your followers. To boost conversions, you have to stand out and get people to notice your message. Therefore, keep your updates refreshed and share your key content and offers repeatedly to ensure a boost in conversions and engagement.

Free Or Low-Cost Medium

Finally, there is no cost to register on Facebook, Twitter or any other social media platform and the costs associated with such marketing platforms are mainly hinged on the nature of your organization, content development, search engine optimization, including community development and management. Such may require the collaborative efforts of a writer or expert in the subject matter because producing, publishing, and promoting content by yourself can be challenging.

  1. Hi Moni, great information here. There is just no excuse now for people in business not to be taking advantage of social media platforms. Whilst it might be difficult to get over the initial ‘hurdle’ of putting yourself and your business out there, it is a missed opportunity if not used. It’s the best method of free advertising that you can get. It will only continue to grow and thrive, and those who don’t harness it will be left behind.

    1. Hi Melissa, thank you for dropping by and taking the time to comment.

You are absolutely right social media sites are a goldmine of free advertising, however, from my personal experience, it can be overwhelming to try and use all the social media platforms at once to grow your business.

For anyone starting out, I would say just pick one social media platform and master that until you get good results. Once you have mastered one platform then if you want you can pick another one to grow your reach.

  2. Hi, I know I should get more active on social media, especially Facebook.

I have problems though due to my posts are not being seen by many people. I don’t understand how Facebook works really but when I post something I get about 8 to 15 views.
I have almost 3000 friends though.
I know the potential and power of social media but don’t yet know how to use it.

    1. Hi Stefan, thank you for dropping by and taking the time to comment.

The key to any social media posting and being seen is consistency. Adding posts on a consistent basis so your “tribe” know when to expect to hear from you.

Keeping adding posts to entertain and educate your friends.

Stefan from my experience it does take time to build up a loyal group of followers so my friend just keep adding content and providing value to your friends and you will see a growth in your reach.

      Wish you much success.

  3. Hi Moni

Great post thank you. I have been looking at building my audience targeting on facebook but with the new updates they have brought in this year I wonder if I can still get the response that I am looking for, do you recommend continuing with facebook or maybe diversify with another account?

    Many Thanks
    Drew

    1. Hi Andrew, thank you for dropping by and taking the time to leave a comment.

Facebook still provides value and it is worth continuing with Facebook. However, if I was you I would also consider Linkedin as in my opinion you will find better calibre people on Linkedin.

The only thing I would say is to focus on one social platform and master that instead of trying to work on many social media platforms. Unless, of course, you have a big budget to outsource and take on a social media manager.

      Wish you much success!

Jeff these days there is really no need to pay for Social Media training. Just head over to YouTube OR Google and search for the training you need and you will find more training than you can handle.

If however, there is a particular Social Media subject you would like me to cover on this site please let me know and I will do my best to cover that subject.
